FAQs

Q: What is a worship service like at Light & Life?

A: Our time of gathered worship follows a four-fold Word and Table structure.  We have a time of gathering, which includes singing, calls to worship, reading of psalms, announcements, prayers and offering.  After we spend some time gathering we move into a time of Word, which includes the reading of scripture (usually an Old Testament passage, a New Testament passage and a Gospel passage) and a sermon.  After hearing the Word we respond by coming to the Table to celebrate Holy Communion.  After Communion we receive a blessing as a we go forth from gathered worship into the world.

Q: What kind of music do you sing?

A: We sing psalms, hymns, contemporary songs, and children’s songs.  We try to have a fair mix of music from all generations.  Our worship team leads with guitars, piano, drums, mandolins, cellos, violins, and even the trombone.  In all we do we try to make a joyful noise to the Lord.

Q: What are the sermons like?

A: The sermons are both biblical and practical.  We believe that “all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the person of God may be thoroughly equipped for all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16,17)  The sermons are usually dialogue based and involve questions and response from the congregation.

Q: How long is the service?

A: We begin at 10:15 and are usually finished at 11:30.  Some Sundays we go longer and other Sundays we finish earlier.

Q: Where do my children go?

A: We believe that children are highly valued in the kingdom of God and for that reason we want as many children present in our midst as possible.  Our youngest children (0-preschool) are welcome to learn and grow in the nursery (0-2) and in the preschool (2-preschool).  All children, no matter how old they are, are welcomed to join us for gathered worship.  We recognize that children are with us and we try to tailor the service to include them.

Q: How should I dress?

A: We are a “come as you are” congregation.  The pastor usually preachers in jeans and a business casual shirt.  Our members wear everything from shorts and sandals to shirts and ties.
